Package Description
A week-long expedition to India offers a unique blend of volunteer work and travel, creating a profoundly engaging, meaningful, and impactful experience for participants. India, home to a significant number of street children living in poverty without access to adequate shelter, education, healthcare, or parental care, presents a critical area for intervention.
The Street Children Project is crafted to mitigate these challenges, relying on the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteers to make a tangible difference in the lives of these children through local shelters and informal education centers.
Volunteers dedicate their time to various tasks at these shelters or centers, including teaching, managing administrative responsibilities, and creating interactive lessons and games. Additionally, special sessions focusing on art and crafts are organized not only to beautify the centers but also to foster a deeper connection with the children.
This program is designed to offer participants an opportunity to experience India authentically and responsibly, bridging the gap between travel and meaningful contribution to society.
Itinerary
Day One
Upon your arrival at Delhi Airport, you'll be greeted and transferred to your accommodation for some rest. This will be followed by an orientation session to brief you on the upcoming activities. Afterward, you'll have some leisure time before dinner.
Day Two
Start your day with an early breakfast before heading to Agra to marvel at the iconic Taj Mahal, a wonder of the world. Enjoy a detailed guided tour of the monument, then savor lunch at a local eatery. Post-lunch, you'll embark on your journey back to Delhi, arriving at your hotel by the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day Three
After breakfast at the hotel, your journey begins towards your first volunteer placement. You'll meet the staff and get an overview of your responsibilities, mainly focusing on working with the Street Children Project. Activities include educational games, administrative support, and center redecoration to create a vibrant space for the children. You'll work in small groups in various projects within the Okhla area, which have seen little support due to the pandemic. Post-lunch, provided by our staff, you'll continue your efforts for a few hours before returning to the hotel for dinner.
Day Four
Following breakfast, you'll resume your volunteer work at the Street Children project. In the evening, enjoy a visit to Dilli Haat, an open-air craft bazaar and food plaza, showcasing handicrafts from across India. Explore and shop for unique items like hand-painted paper Mache products, silk shawls, and more. Afterwards, return to your hotel.
Day Five
Continue your volunteer efforts after breakfast. In the evening, visit the Akshardham Temple, the world's largest Hindu temple, and experience the mesmerizing water and laser show within the temple complex. This show, based on the Kena Upanishad, combines water, music, fire, lasers, and more to narrate an ancient story. Following this uplifting experience, you'll head back to your hotel.
Day Six
Check out from your hotel and, depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some free time or engage in last-minute shopping before your departure.
